MASTITIS

A common infection of the
breast in lactating women.

Definition. Mastitis is an infection of the breast. Mastitis occurs most frequently in women that are breastfeeding, but it can also occur in women that are not lactating. Signs and symptoms of mastitis are pain, swelling, redness and warmth at the site of infection. A fever may or may not be present.

Etiology. What causes mastitis? The micro-organism most commonly implicated in mastitis is Staphylococcus. The factors that lead up to mastitis appear to be congestion of milk ducts. During breastfeeding, it isnot uncommon for milk ducts to become over-distended with milk at some point and for the breast to become swollen and extremely painful. This is especially true if the mother goes a long time between feedings or forgets to pump her breasts which can easily happen. One the tissue is distended, it can be difficult to get the tissue to return to its normal size as well as get rid of the pain. Eventually if the swelling and congestion do not resolve, the breast tissue can become infected.

Treatment. So what can be done to treat mastitis? Typical treatment is antibiotics. But mastitis can be prevented! Lactease is an all natural, herbal oil that can be rubbed on to congested breast tissue to alleviate both swelling and pain. It works quickly, and it is very easy to use. If the congestion and pain are treated early enough, an infection of the breast(mastitis) can be avoided. We strongly recommend that all breastfeeding Moms have a bottle of Lactease on hand so that they can begin treatment immediately if there is any congestion or pain in their breasts.

This product also works extremely well for women that have painful breast lumps. The most common cause of painful breast lumps is a condition known as fibrocystic breast disease. Again, all you have to do is rub Lactease on the affected breast tissue and relief from the pain is obtained quickly! Click here if you would like to order a bottle of LACTEASE, click on it!
